Software, AI & a few other thingsPersonal website / JK
Hello, I’m

Johannes
Kroll.

AI & Data Scientist · Software developer

I work on AI agents, the data behind them, and software people use.

At SAP, I develop AI use cases and work with large datasets to explore ideas and evaluate agents. Alongside that, I build websites and custom software for clients.

How useful is the answer?

My master’s thesis compared retrieval-augmented generation architectures. At BMW, I also worked on fine-tuning language models and deploying them on GPU infrastructure.

When’s the next train?

Munich’s public transport departures on a Raspberry Pi and a small LCD. A little Python project for information you want at a glance.

Websites, software & AI

I work with clients on business websites, custom software, and practical AI use cases. That can mean a new site, a tool that saves time, or an idea that needs a first implementation.

Websites
Design, development, and ongoing maintenance.
AI & data
Agentic workflows, language models, and finding answers in your documents.
Software
Custom tools, backends, and automating repetitive tasks.

02About me

A few things beyond
the project list.

A bit of background.

I like knowing how things work. Reading the source code usually helps.

I studied computer science at the Technical University of Munich, worked on websites and backend services at Westend61, and explored language models at BMW.

Since April 2025, I’ve been an AI & Data Scientist at SAP. I develop AI use cases, with a particular focus on agents: systems that can work through tasks using tools and information from different sources.

A substantial part of that work involves large datasets. I use them to explore new ideas for agents and evaluate their behaviour—understanding what works, where an approach falls short, and what to investigate next. I enjoy moving between an initial idea, the data, and a working implementation.

Open source

I’m a big fan. Being able to read the code, learn from someone else’s approach, and build on shared work is a big part of what I enjoy about software.

Outside of work

On the mat

I’ve practised karate since childhood, earned my second-degree black belt, and taught children and adults. It’s a different kind of problem-solving.

In the community

I volunteer with SV 1880 München and Münchner Sportjugend. At SV 1880, I’ve helped organize sports camps and youth events. I’ve also spent years helping at children’s and youth camps with ZeitFrei.

Away for a while

Travelling solo through Asia gave me time to explore Russia, Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, and Thailand. A lot to take in, and a lot to remember.

03Distractions

Small games.
Entirely optional.

While you’re here.

Two things to play with
01 / Memory

Eight cards. Four pairs.

You know the rules. See how few moves you need.

02 / Graph puzzle

Find the clique.

A group where everyone is connected. Inspired by my quantum-computing project.

The games need JavaScript. The rest of the site works without it.

P.S. There’s an old cheat code hidden here, too.

Tell me what you have in mind. A few sentences are enough to start.

German or English is fine.
